Escape and Rescue Comes Before Recovery

It’s been five weeks since Hurricane Sandy struck. I was able to listen to a few survivors speaking about their experience on television tonight. And I recognized their pain. I remember what it felt like in those first few hours. I was in a panic. It took time to find anyone who could help me and I did not know what to do. I did not fully understand what had happened. I did not know what made sense to do first. I did not know who to ask for help and I was by myself. The animals were okay, but there did not seem to be any dry places. Little did I know that being dry would be one of the most fleeting aspects of life for several weeks. Like those who seek recovery now, help came from friends and my local church group. I walked and talked with the small band of folks from church who came to support me that night. We prayed together. I was making instantaneous decisions that came more from instinct that any logical reasoning. I was in shock and overlooking useful actions for whatever caught my attention. I was strictly in survival mode, focused…

Hope in Hard Times

I awoke this morning listening to a TV segment about a group heading to help those still affected by Hurricane Sandy. It’s a tough time for the survivors. I remember how long it took to recover from my own disaster. The storm passes, but the work continues for months, and even years. What is most astounding is that we go from our normal lives, just like most other days, to an emotional roller coaster and a staggering sense of being powerless, but we do survive. There is something so resilient in the human spirit. We can get through it. Even I feel powerless in the face of such an event, asking myself ‘what can I do?’ For sure, one thing I can do is to share my story and perhaps it will comfort someone or provide a place to learn how to get through this. For me, that morning in 2005 seemed like any other day. It was raining as it had been (I think it was something like 30 days) as I headed off to the studio where we were wrapping a long television production. We were all feeling a sense of accomplishment, gratified even if exhausted. The host…

No Excuses Allowed When Creating a Fused Glass Business

What’s one of the biggest excuses you give for not going after your dreams? Would it happen to be ‘I don’t have the time.’ Welcome to the world of excuses that stop most people from achieving their goals. Jim Rohn described these excuses as the thorns that choke us and become impenetrable. It’s drawn from the parable in Matthew 13. That parable has taken on so much more meaning now that I am involved in explaining the process of deliberate creation to people. No one sets out to fail when they start something new, but they do. The statistics sound amazing. 70% will start, but never finish a new business, a new course of study. Why? We don’t really know – and as Jim Rohn would put it, don’t take that course. Don’t sign up for it. We just don’t know. So, when so few people are able to follow through on their goals even when they invest lots of time and money, it feels good to be able to highlight success stories. On Monday, April 2nd at 11:00am (Pacific), I will be speaking with Steven Lenchner, founder of Lenchner Glass. What is special about Steven is that he has…

WHO IS HOLDING YOU ACCOUNTABLE

Anyone who reads my blogs must have an idea that I’ve been a fan of Napoleon Hill for decades. It began with his quote: “Anything the human mind can conceive and believe, it can achieve.” Likewise, I mention that according to The Law of Success, all the principles of success can work for anyone as long as they have a purpose and a plan. As a coach, that translates first and foremost into identifying what people want – their purpose. Before we can make any progress, we have to create the vision. Not that I want to beat a dead horse, but we have to see where people are and where they want to go. Bob Proctor, who began his stellar career through the study of Hill’s book Think and Grow Rich, is known for this expression. He developed a program in his learning system called The Goal Achiever. A first step in the personal development process, it is an excellent program to determine what your goals are. Then it’s time for a process that leads to those goals. Preparing the plan is not just an exercise in goal setting. It is also part of coming to believe that what…

Do You Have A System for Success

I am a great believer that opportunities are everywhere. When we are looking for them, we stumble over them. With all the distractions in our lives, we may miss them, brush them aside or mumble something to ourselves about getting back to ‘that’ later. Sadly, later never seems to come. Why? From my vantage point, I get to see colleagues master their studies, pouring hundreds of hours and thousands of dollars into the pursuit of education only to let their new skills languish. They seem unable to move to the next step to build their careers or businesses. What’s stopping them? In coaching, we talk about “being” before we can have. We discuss the motivational gap between where we are and where we want to be. Yet, it is more than just theory to know what we want and outline a plan. At some point, we must decide we have completed our education or a particular stage of development and are ready to move into the next right action. Let me give you an example of what I mean. If you were to come to me for coaching, I would ask you ‘what do you want?’ We would look for…

The Power of the Mind

I’ve been thinking a great deal about the power of the mind to create opportunities lately.  As a LifeSuccess Consultant and Life coach, the majority of my work involves explaining how this power works, and then facilitating the application of this power in a certain way to obtain the results people want.  I find myself fascinated by the process.  It’s a creative process.  In fact, you could say it’s the process of creation itself. Here we sit in a vast ocean of thought energy.  We’re not just surrounded by it, it permeates every cell of our being.  The philosophers tell us that everything begins with an idea.  Everything is the world started as an idea, from the creation to the acquisition of the things that surround us, the environment and the situations in which we find ourselves. I heard a statistic that 80,000 thoughts pass across the screen of our minds per day.  Then one thought resonates with us, gets us excited and we start to play with it. In the LifeSuccess programs, we work with this process of the mind to consciously obtain the results we want.  One of the key steps involved is to hold the idea we…

Get It Out There

My favorite projects help you move forward on your personal development path, however, others are just entertainment.  Shortly after my last posting (and the Success Conference), I was engaged to manage a new reality show that fell into the latter category.  It took a great deal of time, but I was able to keep moving forward with another project closer to home.  Since July, I had been busily publishing a second edition of my husband’s book, “Tombstone: The Guns and Gear.”  Finally, in November, as the reality show drew to a close, both the hard cover and soft cover arrived. Now, we have product in hand.  Success!  Well, not quite.  You see, we have just entered the next phase.  Now, we have to find our audience and get the word out that the book is available.  Here it is the eve of Christmas and I am following a social media assignment to understand how to reach and build an audience.  (In marketing terms, this involves getting the message to a group of like minded individuals who are interested enough to purchase your product or services). My first attempts to ‘get it out there’ have only alerted the warm audience who…

My New BlogTalkRadio Show

To Your Success is meant to help people achieve their success.  I also remember it is a journey.  We take each next presented step as it is revealed to us.  For me, it is the premiere of my new BlogTalkRadio show, Let’s Make Money.    We’ll be talking about business and prosperity topics.  Today is about network marketing as an additional income stream. It’s coming on in less than 30 minutes.  I have to get ready, but I just had to share this adventure with you.   My friends have told me it could be a radio reality show.  Ha.  I’m not so sure that is the route I would take with it, but it certainly generates it’s own bit of drama. Hope you can join us.  9:00am PST today.

Coming soon: The Let’s Make Money Success Conference

Have you ever been so busy that you are not quite sure what is the most important thing to do with your day? That’s where I am right now. I am hosting and producing several projects right now. We are planning the Let’s Make Money Blogtalkradio show, have just begun to shoot the preliminary footage for The Think and Grow Rich Experiment and it’s only a couple weeks until my Let’s Make Money Success Conference event on October 5th, in Valencia, CA. The big question is whether I can reach out to enough people to let them know the conference is happening. Viral social media is great if you catch the wave, but I feel as if I am struggling to stand up on the board, let alone ride all the way to shore. I have so much to learn. However, even though it is challenging, if we want to succeed in today’s marketplace, it’s important to embrace the new ways of reaching other people. The consumer has changed. No one wants to be interrupted by telemarketers, wade through piles of mail left for the day when you have any ‘extra’ time to go through it. In fact, we don’t…

The Magic of Self Discipline

Have you ever noticed how your email Inbox will carry certain themes from time to time? When that happens, I take notice. So what’s the current theme in mine? The magic of Good Habits, the thought that habits bring the self discipline that leads to success. Stop to think about it. Have you ever considered whether you were suffering from Sloppy Thinking? Just look around your physical world. You’ll see it manifesting all around you. In fact, the Internet sensation Flylady addresses this phenomena when she starts her Flybabies on an organizational journey by having them shine their sinks every day for a month. Then she moves on to another habit that helps restore order in the home. What she is drawing attention to is that one way to establish order in your thinking is to develop better habits in your actions. She’s not the first to see it. A friend of mine who is a psychotherapist showed me a way to cure depression by doing a few simple tasks every day; 12 Step Programs ask people to take 90 Meetings in 90 Days. Maxwell Maltz laid out the idea that habits could be changed over 21 days in the…

It’s not about the money, it’s the mindset

I had several ‘aha’ moments over the past couple days. In coaching situations, we often speak about ‘popping our paradigms.’ Those are the habit patterns of thinking and acting we acquire as we go through life. Good habits are fine, but we have so many that get in our way and prevent us from achieving our goals. In the past couple days, I saw patterns in myself over choices about money that I made again and again. I must really want to learn this lesson! Like Liza Doolittle in My Fair Lady — by george, I think I got it! Now I want to play! I want to create! If you’d like to join me, we can all play together at A Day for Dollars on Saturday, June 26th. Mary Morrissey, Bob Proctor and Sandra Gallagher will be putting on an all day event in Marina Del Rey. They have a website at www.adayfordollars.com if you want information. Remember, it’s not about the money, it’s the mindset. To Your Success, Susan

The Joy of Success

“The standard of success in life is not the money or the stuff – the standard of success is absolutely the amount of joy you feel.”   – Abraham I’m thinking about joy this week.  After weeks of contemplating the process of creating success, I experience a certain relief when letting go of visualization for a bit and allowing joy to fill me.  I am fortunate.  I spend a few days at Serra Retreat in Malibu walking among the various gardens and labyrinth with friends, looking out over the cliffs toward the ocean, each of us stretching to catch a glimpse of the wild parrots as they fly among the trees below.  For a moment, the air is filled with their calls before silence returns to the landscape.    In the silence, all need falls away.  I am reminded of my anonymous angel.  “Energy is.  Energy will.  Do the work.  Be of service.”  Other phrases fill my thoughts.  “Release the past as well as the compulsion to know and control the outcome. ” Let me be in the moment.  Right now.   Listening for guidance until it is time to return to the mundane.  I am so grateful for this time here.
